Hunter Valley Events at Wollombi Tavern

The grounds of the Tavern make it an ideal location for many events during the year. Several local events are hosted by us to which all visitors are welcome.

Carp Cleanout Competition (March)

A great new event started in March 2015 which will now be held annually. Prizes and cash to the value of $2,000 to be won for heaviest fish caught, most fish caught and total bag of fish caught. All proceeds will be donated to Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Entry $20 for an adult, $10 for a child and free for kids under 10 years old. Music and a BBQ will be happening on the Saturday afternoon so you can chill out while the weigh in takes place with a sausage sandwich, some good tunes and a beer!

Anzac Day (April)

Our traditional Anzac Day begins with the Dawn Service at Anzac Reserve and is followed by a hearty country breakfast in the Tavern grounds. The breakfast is hosted by the Tavern and is free.

Of course Anzac Day would not be complete without the traditional Two-Up game. The game is normally held in the BBQ area which is an ideal location as it is close to the drinks bar and snack bar. So if you are in the area next Anzac Day make sure that you attend the Dawn Service, join us for Breakfast then around 1pm thrill to the big game as the call “Come In Spinner” echoes around the village.

Wollombi Taste Festival & Cracker Night (June)

Join us for the Wollombi Taste Festival, a spectacular 10 day celebration of local cuisine and wine set against the historic charm of Wollombi. The Wollombi Tavern hosts a magical evening with the Picnic by Lantern Light from 4pm. This enchanting event invites you to picnic under the stars on the historic tavern grounds. Enjoy a night filled with delicious food, local wines, live music and the famed ‘Cracker Night’ fireworks from 8:30pm.

Wollombi Tavern Woodchop (October)

Held each year towards the end of October, Heats and Finals commence at 10.30am on the Saturday, continuing all day until around 4-5pm, in the NSW Wollombi Tavern Championship Title Chop. Neville Craft Memorial Point Score on all Handicap events – Ladies Nail Driving Competition – Underhand, standing block, tree felling, and sawing events single handed and double. Live music Saturday evening – Bring a Blanket or a Chair – Bistro open all Day – Great Family Fun Day.

Melbourne Cup Lunch (November)

Join us for a V.I.P. event at Wollombi Tavern commencing 11:30am. Enjoy a seafood buffet, with a complimentary glass of bubbles for $46 per person. Sweeps will be available until 2:30pm, join in the hat parade and have a relaxing fun afternoon with lots of laughs, games and prizes. See Dennis for his racing tips, with race viewing outside and inside the Tavern.

New Year’s Eve (December)

Join us every New Year’s Eve for family friendly fireworks at 9pm, and live music until late. The bistro is open, and serving great food until late!

Wollombi Market Days

Wollombi Markets are held on the Public Holiday Monday every long weekende, and on Australia Day. This great market has over 100 stalls, including local produce and crafts, plants, clothes, tools, bric-a-brac and much more. Live music at the tavern from 1pm.

Weddings

With our ample parking, heliport, extensive grounds, proximity to beautifully maintained country churches and local accommodation establishments, the Tavern’s grounds are a popular location for Hunter Valley wedding receptions and photo opportunities.
